Error about conflict of IP ports when starting Activity Monitor
Posted by Yuri M, Last modified by Yuri M on 09 September 2010 12:54 PM
Problem:
When I start Activity Monitor server module, I get an error saying "Failed to create server sockets. Error# 10048"

Solution:
Socket error 10048 is "Address already in use". This means that some program is already using same port number as Activity Monitor tries to use. Please check in Task Manager if you don't have another copy of Activity Monitor (swatcher.exe file on processes tab) running. It can possible be running under other user session.
If it's not the case, check what program uses any of these TCP IP ports used by AM :
AM version  5+: 15163(TCP), 15165(UDP)

AM version  < 5: 15163(TCP), 15165(UDP), 15166 (TCP)

To check open ports you may use a freeware utility called Active Ports.

When you found the program that uses any of these ports, try to change port numbers that it uses in its settings. If it's not possible, close or install that program. It's not possible to configure Activity Monitor to use other IP port numbers. If it's not possible to resolve this ports conflict, you need to install Activity Monitor on different computer in your network.
